2022/2023

On June 22nd, UMCT had the golden opportunity to visit Pusat Pemulihan Penagihan Narkotik (PUSPEN) Sungai Besi.

During this visitation, our advisor, Dr Sheila, along with two UM Legal Aid Clinic students delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Malaysian Legal System and various legal aid providers in Malaysia to the clients in PUSPEN.

We are also grateful of the insights provided into the history of PUSPEN and the rehabilitation programmes provided there. Other than that, the occasion afforded us the opportunity to engage with the clients through a series of engaging mini-games.

As such, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the officers and clients for their warm hospitality and amiable reception. This visitation underscored the principle that everyone is deserving of a second chance in life.

On June 13th, UMCT had the privilege to visit the Seremban prison.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the officers’ hospitality, which included guiding us on a tour of the prison facilities and granting us the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with the inmates.

This eye-opening experience has left a profound impact on us, deepening our understanding of the incarcerated individuals and the importance of empathy and support in their journey towards rehabilitation.

On 3 May 2023, the UM Consti Team revisited the landmark case of Indira Gandhi a/p Mutho v Director of the Islamic Religious Department of Perak & Ors and Other Appeal [2018] 1 MLJ 545, in our Case Revisitation event.

As such, we would like to sincerely thank the mooters Luc, Nevyn, Akhmal, and Ignatius for their outstanding performance, which made the event a resounding success.

We are also immensely grateful to our esteemed panel of judges, Dato' Seri Mohd Hishamudin Yunus, Dato' Jerald Gomez, and Mr. Fahri Azzat, for their invaluable insights and critical analysis, which provided us with a deeper understanding of the case.

Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who graced the occasion and made it a grand success. Your presence made the event even more special, and we hope to see you again soon!

On 17 December 2022, the UM Consti Team hosted a Live Panel Discussion in collaboration with Undi 18 and Parliwomen.

In line with our Street Consti Initiative, the UM Consti Team organised an inaugural public speaking competition, titled “Libertatem Defendimus: We Defend Liberty!

Participants were given the opportunity to present their on opinions on the topic "GE14 has destabilised Malaysia. Yay or Nay?". The preliminary rounds of the competition were held via video submissions, following which 4 outstanding participants were selected to participate in the finals held during our Live Panel Discussion on 17 December 2022.

We hereby wish to congratulate all winners, as well as express our sincerest gratitude to our judges, Dr. Usharani and Mr. Luc Choong for their continuous support.

Kickstarting the Street Consti Initiative was a short video competition! Participants were given a chance to unleash their creativity and showcase their IG reels and TikTok making skills while advocating for fundamental rights as outlined in our Constitution.
