About Us

The University of Malaya Constitutional Team (UMCT) is a voluntary organisation led by passion-driven law students of Universiti Malaya, who are dedicated to promoting constitutional literacy through various avenues. Our primary objective is to inculcate the spirit of constitutionalism, not only into the young legal minds, but of the general public as well with the help of education, social engagement, and even “edu-entertainment”.

We are constantly churning out content to provide legal exposure pertaining to the Constitution. Our content includes bulletins, law series, infographics, podcasts and even educational TikTok videos, just to name a few! UMCT also works very closely with the Constitutional Literacy Initiative (CLI), a collaboration between the Malaysian Bar and the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya. Our bulletin, the Consti Bulletin, was birthed from this joint effort!

In recent times, we have expanded our focus to human rights issues as well in hopes of aiding the community at large and providing targeted assistance to the impoverished and disenfranchised communities. We believe that actions speak louder than words which is why we have meticulously curated numerous impactful initiatives in the past, achieving a considerable amount of success.

We hope to continue spreading constitutional patriotism amongst our Rakyat, and if you think you have what it takes to be a part of our team, do await our recruitment!

Till then, stick around and stay updated with the UM Consti Team!

"The Constitution is Supreme, The Parliament is Not"

Our Vision

1. To cultivate social integration between the students from the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, and the public.

2. To educate and illuminate the public on matters pertaining to Constitutional and human rights issues in both the local and international arenas.

3. To provide a platform for the students from the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, to engage in a critical, non-partisan discussion pertaining to constitutional issues afflicting both the local and international arenas.

  • Why should we sponsor UMCT?
We are a club formed on a voluntary basis. Despite our enthusiasm and strong desire to promote the spirit of constitutionalism and human rights issues, as a student body, we are in need of funds to execute our events and plans. With our flagship event for the first semester, the Street Consti Initiative, just around the corner, we require your benevolence now more than ever! Listed below are 3 reasons that differentiate us from the rest of the pack: We are a club formed on a voluntary basis. Listed below are 3 reasons that differentiate us from the rest of the pack:   1. Proven Track-record We are one of the oldest and most well-established sub-projects under the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya. Throughout our establishment, we have planned and conducted over 38 events. All of them have been successful in that we were able to draw large crowds (some even in the hundreds) on a consistent basis. As an organisation well-versed in event planning, we will be sure to deliver quality and cost-effective activities, to the satisfaction of our sponsors so that nothing is done wastefully.   2. We champion social welfare and educational empowerment We believe that to make actual change, we have to get down and dirty by visiting/going directly to the targeted community. At the heart of all our activities, it is to encourage and instil the spirit of constitutionalism. Only when one knows of their right can they demand better and empower themselves. We do not wish to hand out “fish” to our participants but rather to teach them “how to fish”. This enables them to gain independent thoughts and advocate for better welfare for themselves and their community at large.   3. We are one of the largest student bodies We have a strong audience base, often having numerous shares and reposts of our activities on Instagram. This is evident when we have more followers on Instagram than any other sub-projects under the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya. In fact, we have more followers than our parent club, UM Law Society. This indicates our strong social media presence. Hence, if you are interested in the commercial or business opportunities that our organisation may bring, UMCT would be the right pick!
  • Why should we trust your organisation?
We are aware that numerous parties may have approached your organisation in hopes of securing sponsorship or collaborative opportunities and as such, it is not viable to merely take the words at face value. However, we pride ourselves on the quality of our programmes as well as their overarching benefit to the community. Listen to the testimonies from accredited parties that had previously collaborated or are currently collaborating with us here to further boost your confidence in us.
  • What activities has UMCT done in the past
Throughout our establishment, we have conducted over 36 activities, numerous of them constitutional-themed based. However, in recent times, we have increased the number of activities surrounding the theme of Human Rights in hopes of aiding the community at large and providing targeted assistance to the impoverished and disenfranchised communities.
