2025/2026
On 16 April 2026, the UM Consti Team was honoured to host esteemed panellists Mr Khoo Kay Ping, Partner of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, and Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi, holder of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Chair as Professor of Constitutional Law, for the Demi Rakyat: Separation of Powers and the Malaysian Constitution panel session at the Foyer, Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya.
Moderated by then-UM Consti Team member Thishant, the forum discussed Malaysia’s practice of the doctrine of separation of powers and the role of constitutional institutions in ensuring accountability and protecting the people’s interests. The forum concluded with a rousing Q&A session, where participants gained valuable insights into how constitutional principles operate and the contemporary challenges of maintaining the balance of power among government bodies.

On 27 April 2026, the UM Consti Team had the privilege of undergoing a visit to the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, with an engagement session featuring YB Syed Ahmad bin Abdul Rahman Alhadad (ADN Lembah Jaya). The visit allowed participants to experience first-hand the inner workings of the state legislative process, connecting theoretical knowledge of state governance and the roles of elected representatives to practical experience.
Alongside YB Syed Ahmad, the UM Consti Team wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to YB Tuan Preakas A/L Sampunathan (ADN Kota Kemuning) and YB Tuan Chua Wei Kiat (ADN Rawang), whose presence and valuable insights further enriched participants’ understanding of constitutional and administrative law.

Human Rights Festival 2025
On 7 December 2025, the UM Consti Team had the pleasure of being featured in the Human Rights Festival 2025, which was held by the Malaysian Bar.
Our booth featured an overview of our events and initiatives, with representatives having the opportunity to network and mingle with like-minded participants. The event was a critical opportunity to connect with members of the public and the legal fraternity, in line with our organisation’s mission of increasing constitutional literacy in Malaysian Society.

In collaboration with the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (MCCHR), the UM Consti Team held the Constitutional Law 101 Workshop on 17 November 2025. Split into two sessions, “Rights in Your Everyday Lives” and “Know Your Rights”, participants were guided through the essential rights enshrined in the Federal Constitution and how they function within Malaysia’s legal framework. The event also featured an interactive group activity that further allowed participants to critically engage with alternative viewpoints on the application of individual rights.
The UM Consti Team wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Ms Firdaus binti Husni and Ms Toh Nyon Nyin, whose insights and practical examples enriched the discussions throughout the workshop.

Although pyjama party-themed, the UM Consti Team Induction Night held on 4 November 2025 was far from a snooze-fest. Between plushies and introductions, members gathered to welcome recruits to the UMCT family for the 25/26 Tenure.
It was a night filled with laughter, connection, and budding excitement for the tenure to come as members began forging bonds that would fuel the team for months to come.
